For 2010 we have
decided to raise money for the South Snowdonia Sea The area covered by SSSART includes the Rhinogs, the Moelwyns and the Arennig Mountains plus a large area of moor and farmland between - approximately 800 square kilometres. Their area draws in not only walkers and climbers but also a large number of mountain bikers and others who enjoy extreme sport. The team of volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year and respond not only to mountain and wilderness search and rescue calls but also assist the police in civilian searches in urban areas which might relate to lost children or people who have gone missing from home. They can also be on by neighbouring Teams to help their operations. The team is drawn from all walks of life (farmers, electricians, vets) and receive no payment for rescues or for the time that they give up for training. In fact, these volunteers have to pay an annual subscription to be part of the team. The rest of the substantial cost of running SSSART is met by public donation. In 2009, the Mountain Rescue teams in Snowdonia were called out to more than double the number of incidents than in 2008. With a rise in the number of people visiting Snowdonia they can expect to receive an increasing level of call outs each year. How does this affect you? There are people who go out into the countryside and do stupid things. We know that you're not one of them. But have you ever thought who would come to rescue you if you had a bad crash whilst riding in Coed y Brenin? Somebody would have to carry you from the trail to the nearest point that an ambulance could reach. How about if the weather turned bad when you were walking The Roman Steps and you lost the path? Or if your child was separated from you in the forest? Or your dog fell into a ravine and couldn't get out again? These are all things which could happen to anybody and are all situations in which the South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team would be called to your aid. Cadair View Lodge Ltd are looking to raise at least £1,000 in 2010 towards the cost of running SSSART. We will be donating at least £1 from each cabin booking to the Charity. We would like your help to make this fundraiser a huge success. It would be great if you could make a donation directly to the Charity (see their website for how to do this) but we will also be leaving envelopes in our cabins in which we are asking guests to leave their loose change (and/or a donation) when they leave. We hope that you can contribute toward this. To find out more about South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team see their website. We will post information about how the fundraising is going and about any special events that are being planned on our Facebook fan page We will also ask their permission to post details about their year (searches, rescues and their training) to give our guests an insight into where our fundraising money is going.
Work Done By Local Rescue Services in 2010 During the recent bad weather, rescue teams from across North Wales have been called on by the Ambulance Service to assist in calls to people who are at home but who the normal ambulance vehicles can't get to. Not glamorous, but very necessary.
