CADAIR VIEW LODGE

NEWSLETTER  - WINTER 2004

Hi, and welcome to the Cadair View Lodge Winter newsletter.

We’ve had a busy Autumn with lots of bookings.  We’ve added more new cabins to our portfolio and changed some details on our existing ones.  We’ve added more to the website and developed some mountain biking routes of our own!  Read on to find out the details.

We had the season’s first snow in November.  We only had an inch or so and it only lasted a day but the place looked magical whilst it was here.  The locals are predicting a hard winter and so it probably won’t be the last snow that we see.

The cabins are now all decorated for Christmas with outside lights and interior decorations, and our Christmas visitors will be arriving over the next few days.

We hope that you all have a Happy Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year or as they say around here “Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda”!  We look forward to seeing new customers and regular customers throughout 2005.

Sue and Ray

PLACES TO EAT

We’re looking for recommendations of places to eat in the area so that we can add them to the website.  Where have you eaten and what did you think?

Mo’s Kitchen – Maentwrog (also known as the White Barn).  Very friendly atmosphere, great home-cooked food.  You’ll need to book.  They don’t take credit cards only cash or cheques.

Castell Deudraeth – Portmeirion.  We have been told that both the service and the food were excellent – well worth a visit.

Over to you…

NEWS

§         Christmas and New Year 2005/6 – No, I’m not crazy!  We had to disappoint lots of people this year because they contacted us in October or November looking for Christmas and New Year stays but we were already booked up.  For next Christmas/New Year we will start taking bookings in January and will ask for a £50 deposit to secure the booking.  This deposit will be refundable, in full, up until the end of August.  If you missed out this year – get in touch now!

§         New cabins – since October we have taken on Llais-y-Gwynt and Ty Coed.  Llais-y-Gwynt will sleep 4 and Ty Coed will sleep 2.  See the Website for more details.  After Christmas we will be taking on another new cabin, which will accept dogs.  This means that we will have 2 dog friendly cabins.  Get your bookings in now!

§         Ski Slope – this has now closed and is being dismantled but we are investigating a local grass-boarding venue.

§         Photos for sale – many of you have commented on the photos in our cabins and on the Website.  These are available for sale as numbered limited edition prints, mounted ready for framing.  They can be dispatched anywhere in the World.  Contact us for details.

§         More pages added to the Website – we are constantly updating the Website.  We have added more historical snippets, more activities, mountain biking pages and photos.  Bookmark us, and check back regularly.  www.cadairviewlodge.co.uk.  We are now averaging 1500 unique visitors to the site each month!

MOUNTAIN BIKING NEWS

Business from the mountain biking community has been booming over the autumn.  We’ve been visited by a number of organised groups both from Universities and independent clubs.  They’ve all had a great time both on and off their bikes!

§         We have bike work stands and tools available for running repairs

§         We have bike stands outside of our cabins

§         New MTB trail opening in the spring – we have been told that there is a new forest trail opening near to Penmachno, in the spring.  Cadair View Lodge is in an ideal position for those who want to ride the CYB trails and those at Penmachno. There will be more information on the opening of this trail in the spring newsletter.

§         Rhinog Vista Run - We have recently way marked a challenging loop from the cabins down onto the Coed-y-Brenin trails. Utilising some of the best single-track sections from the Karrimor and MBR routes, coupled with some tough natural single-track and cross country navigation, the Vista run will prove to be a challenge even to the expert rider and, with appropriate weather, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Rhinog mountain range.

§         Pink Heifer Trail – the Pink Heifer is a legendary unmarked trail in the Coed y Brenin forest.  We have way marked the route so that you can try it – not for the feint hearted!  For more information and video clips from this run see www.mtbbritain.co.uk.

§         If that isn’t enough try the Green Heifer route.  This adds our own Rhinog Vista route to the Pink Heifer to give a 6-hour ride!
