CADAIR VIEW LODGE

NEWSLETTER  - SPRING 2005

Hi, and welcome to the Cadair View Lodge Spring  newsletter.

We've had a busy time since the last newsletter.  We've taken on more cabins - we're now managing 10 with even more on the horizon.  See all of the cabins on the website.

We've met lots of new people from across the World as well as across the country.  The booking that came from furthest away was from somebody who was working in Thailand at the time and the customers who travelled the furthest to visit us came from South Africa!  All through the power of the internet.   And we've had some regular visitors too.

We're looking forward to a visit from a large group of family and friends who are coming for a 40th birthday weekend - what a great idea especially when your family and friends are spread over the whole country.

Enjoy the newsletter and have a look around the website - it's always changing!  Hopefully we'll see you too this year.

Kindest regards

Sue and Ray

PLACES TO EAT

We’re looking for recommendations of places to eat in the area so that we can add them to the website.  Where have you eaten and what did you think?

Mo’s Kitchen – Maentwrog (also known as the White Barn).  Very friendly atmosphere, great home-cooked food.  You’ll need to book.  They don’t take credit cards only cash or cheques.

Castell Deudraeth – Portmeirion.  We have been told that both the service and the food were excellent – well worth a visit.

Over to you…

MOUNTAIN BIKING NEWS

  • On Sunday 10th April, in partnership with Gareth Robinson, editor MtB Britain (www.mtbbritain.co.uk), and support from MtB UK (www.mtbuk.co.uk) we  held a guided ride of the Green Heifer. This ride is an exhilarating but demanding  ride and is essentially an extended version of the infamous 'Pink Heifer' which is described by MtB Britain as the " ...The Uk's finest downhill ride....". Without doubt it is the best ride at Coed y Brenin.  See reports and photos

  • We are currently in discussion with a number of bike manufacturers (including Scott and Marin) about hosting a weekend were YOU can try out the 2006 bikes.  The event is likely to take place in the Autumn (after the Bike Show) and there will be discounted accommodation available.  Want to come?  Register your interest now - places will be limited

  • Make it a trip to remember.  We can

MOUNTAIN BIKING NEWS

Business from the mountain biking community has been booming over the autumn.  We’ve been visited by a number of organised groups both from Universities and independent clubs.  They’ve all had a great time both on and off their bikes!

§         We have bike work stands and tools available for running repairs

§         We have bike stands outside of our cabins

§         New MTB trail opening in the spring – we have been told that there is a new forest trail opening near to Penmachno, in the spring.  Cadair View Lodge is in an ideal position for those who want to ride the CYB trails and those at Penmachno. There will be more information on the opening of this trail in the spring newsletter.

§         Rhinog Vista Run - We have recently way marked a challenging loop from the cabins down onto the Coed-y-Brenin trails. Utilising some of the best single-track sections from the Karrimor and MBR routes, coupled with some tough natural single-track and cross country navigation, the Vista run will prove to be a challenge even to the expert rider and, with appropriate weather, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Rhinog mountain range.

§         Pink Heifer Trail – the Pink Heifer is a legendary unmarked trail in the Coed y Brenin forest.  We have way marked the route so that you can try it – not for the feint hearted!  For more information and video clips from this run see www.mtbbritain.co.uk.

§         If that isn’t enough try the Green Heifer route.  This adds our own Rhinog Vista route to the Pink Heifer to give a 6-hour ride!
