Bala
Lake Railway |
Journey along
the shores of Wales' largest natural lake. The return trip from Lanuchllyn
to Bala takes about an hour. You can break your journey at
intermediate stations perhaps for a lakeside picnic. Child goes free voucher available at Cadair View

Cambrian Coast Line |
A spectacular journey along the coast from
Pwllheli to Aberystwyth (or further!). Along this stretch the railway crosses
several bridges over wide estuaries, passes castles, golden beaches,
bustling harbours and seaside resorts. Day passes and family tickets

Corris Railway |
Like many of the other narrow-gauge
railways in North Wales, Corris railway was built to serve the slate
industry. Corris is unusual in that it has a 2ft 3in gauge. See

Fairbourne & Barmouth Steam Trains |
The Fairbourne & Barmouth Railway runs two and
a half miles between Fairbourne and Penrhyn Point where it connects with a
ferry which takes passengers across the Afon Mawddach to Barmouth.
Along this stretch of track is the station with the longest name in the
World as entered in the Guinness Book of Records.

(The Mawddach Station with its dragon's
teeth on the northerly Penrhyn drive on the golden beach of Cardigan Bay).
The full round trip takes 60 minutes and all trains are normally steam hauled.
Pay once and you can ride as many times as you want

There is also an indoor nature centre and a railway museum, both of which
are free to enter.

Ffestiniog Railway |
The line runs from Porthmadog to Blaenau
Ffestiniog behind one of the world-famous Double Fairlie locomotives.
Journey through a wide variety of scenery much of it in the Snowdonia
National Park. The full return trip takes around 2 hours 15 mins.

A lakeside
trip along the shores of Padarn Lake at the foot of Snowdon. The
return trip takes about 40 minutes. Again it is possible to break the

Snowdon Mountain Railway |
Britain's
highest railway. In a tremendously ambitious feat of engineering, and
uniquely in Britain, a rack and pinion railway was built which rises to
within 66 feet of the summit of the highest mountain in England and Wales.

Talyllyn Railway |
Pay
once and ride all day! Travelling
through beautiful countryside this railway was opened in 1865 and runs from
Tywyn on the Mid Wales Coast inland to Nant Gwernol. The return trip takes
just over two hours, but with so many scenic places to get off to picnic or
walk it is easy be turned into a full day out. The newly refurbished narrow
gauge railway museum will be open to explore mid-Summer 2004. All trains are stream hauled.

Welsh Highland Railway - Porthmadog |
Currently
only a mile long stretch on the southern end of this historic railway is
open. At Porthmadog it is possible to visit the railway workshops and, for
an additional fee, adults can ride with the crew on the footplate! Travel all day ticket also available. See

Welsh Highland Railway - Caernarfon |
Closed in the
1930's this line is currently being rebuilt from Caernarfon towards
Porthmadog. A new stretch of line has recently been opened and it is
now possible to travel to the base of Snowdon at Rhyd Ddu.
The trip now takes more than one and a half hours return. See leaflet
