| Braichgoch Slate Mine |
Explore the abandoned
workings of an old Welsh slate mine which remain virtually untouched since
the day the miners left in the early 1970's.
Deep under the Braichgoch Mountain in Corris, ancient tunnels and caverns
remain as testament to the tough working lives of our forefathers and the
mineral riches that made Wales an important part of the industrial
revolution 200 years ago.
Part of the Braichgoch Slate Mine is home to King Arthur's Labyrinth, where
the underground space is used as a dramatic theatrical setting for the
retelling of Welsh legends about Arthur and other stories. The rest of the
mine remains just as it was when the miners left. Corris Mine
Explorers gives you the opportunity to visit these abandoned slate mine
workings, to see the machinery and miners' tools and to hear about the
history of the mine. Choose from a 1 1/2 hour taster tour or a half day
exploration.
