Make a walk in the woods more interesting for children
We know that very often it's not the price of accommodation that makes a holiday un-affordable but more what will be spent during the holiday. This is especially true when there are children who need entertaining or who are being tempted by ice creams, attractions and gift shops. In this series of blogs we look at ways to keep the spending down by suggesting things that will help keep what you spend to a reasonable level and things that can be done for FREE.
A walk in Coed y Brenin (which is just down the road from our accommodation) maybe with a picnic is a budget friendly few hours or day out. But I can already hear the grumbles from some children "boring" and "there's nothing to do". If you're not an aspiring David Attenborough then you might not be able to make the walk more interesting.
Coed y Brenin Visitor Centre have a number of children's Discovery Packs available for visitors to borrow (not sure whether there's a deposit or which age they're suitable for). Each backpack contains useful goodies like binoculars, a magnifying glass, a bug pot and nature identification cards along with a guide explaining how to use them.
Hopefully you'll all come home with a better understanding of the natural world and maybe a new found interest.
