OS Map Showing location of Caerdeon on the Mawddach Estuary
Coming away on holiday often includes visiting places that you already know about but it is also about making new discoveries. In this age of "Instagram-able" locations and places that have been Tiktok-ed to death it's great to find somewhere a bit off the beaten track. And, if it is somewhere where you might not find anybody else, then all the better.
Here in Eryri / Snowdonia many of the popular places have the reputation of being crowded but a small step off the beaten track can bring you to somewhere where you are unlikely to find anybody else.
This is one of the local churches managed by Friends of Friendless Churches. This is a charity that rescues redundant (closed) historic places of worship in England and Wales from demolition, decay and unsympathetic conversion. This church, St Phillip's at Caerdeon has architecture inspired by the Mediterranean. It was commissioned in 1862 and has decorations with a Byzantine feel.
There are several interesting features listed HERE on its entry on the Friends of Friendless Churches website, but I think that it is most worthy feature is its stunning - out of the way location. Although it is an interesting place to visit in its own right St Phillip's could make a "side trip" to or from Barmouth.

So how do you find St Phillip's Church?
