50+ Ways To Make Your Snowdonia Holiday More Affordable #6

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

Shopping What You Know

We know that very often it's not the price of accommodation that makes a holiday un-affordable but more what will be spent during the holiday. This is especially true when there are children who need entertaining or who are being tempted by ice creams, attractions and gift shops. In this series of blogs we look at ways to keep the spending down by suggesting things that will help keep what you spend to a reasonable level and things that can be done for FREE.

It's always a worry when self-catering on a budget where you're going to shop and how much will it cost.

It can be lovely to shop in little bakeries, delis and local food shops... a treat in face BUT many of these shops are more expensive than our usual food shops. If the budget is tight it's good to be able to more or less predict what shopping will cost.

Whilst we do have lots of local, independent stores (and I'm not implying that they are expensive - just unknown) for a more predictably priced food shop we have some supermarkets too. They may not stock the full range that you're used to at home and the price might be a little more but you'll be buying things that you know and that should be familiar to your party.

Here is a list of supermarkets to be found in each town. These are all within 30 minutes drive of our accommodation.

A little further afield Pwllheli has an Asda (approx. 45 minutes drive) and Caernarfon has a Morrisons (approx. 45 minutes drive).

Siop Glyndwr in Trawsfynydd village (a Premier store) is our nearest shop (apart from the very small shop in Trawsfynydd Leisure Village). Guests staying in Cadair View Lodge Ltd log cabins will received a shopping voucher to use here for essentials on arrival. The shop is small but very well stocked with fresh items and has lots of regular offers.
